The Best Beaches in Southern Georgian Bay 1

The Best Beaches in Southern Georgian Bay

These are our favourite places for a swim in Southern Georgian Bay.

Being outside is one of the best pieces of being alive, isn’t it? Lately, especially, we’ve all been reminded of the beauty of spending time outdoors, whether splashing around, hiking, biking, or simply setting out for an afternoon drive. In Southern Georgian Bay — one of our absolute favourite areas in Ontario — the outdoor activities are endless, especially if you enjoy swimming during your leisure time at a newfound beach.

At Gilbert + Burke, we have a special love for the sparkling waters and the stunning nature scapes that await us in Southern Georgian Bay. Whether you’re a bigtime swimmer or you’re just looking for a place for some relaxation, Southern Georgian Bay is home to some beautiful beaches off of the lakeshores. We love a nice beach day, so we’ve rounded up the best beach spots in Southern Georgian Bay for you to explore.

Our favourite Southern Georgian Bay Beaches

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park: As the longest freshwater beach in the world with 14 kilometres of shoreline, Wasaga Beach is a must-visit for every Southern Georgian Bay explorer. Laying out in the sun is a must-do at Wasaga Beach (as is watching the sunset), but the beach also offers a great hiking area and an excellent place for skiing in the winter.

Craigleith Provincial Park: Craigleith is a natural wonder, with a shoreline created from fractured shale that holds fossils up to 450 million years old. Beachgoers have the ultimate spot for everything from watching the sunset to kayaking, and there are tons of hiking around available at the close Blue Mountain.

Christie Beach: Whether you’re a sandcastle expert or more into swimming, the beaches at Christie Lake are a fun way to spend a day. Set on the Niagara Escarpment, Christie Lake and its beach is also home to a variety of spots just waiting for cyclists, hikers and families alike.

Sauble Beach: Known widely as Canada’s #1 beach, Sauble is a gorgeous place to visit and explore. The second-longest freshwater beach sits on Lake Huron’s shores and is surrounded by nature and fun on every side.

Awenda Provincial Park: One of the most beautiful beaches in Southern Georgian Bay, Awenda boasts over 2,900 acres of rich forest and a private lake perfect for canoeing. Visiting the beaches at Awenda is also a great place to hike and to camp.

Blue Mountain Beach: Blue Mountain Beach is a private beach, but it’s one we highly recommend that everyone try to visit at least once. It’s a stunning visit, perfect for everything from stand-up paddleboarding to swimming.

As proud residents of Ontario, we have a special love for the people and the nature that wait in Southern Georgian Bay — and we’re up for any excuse to swim, hike and bike in one of our favourite Canadian areas. Be sure to give us a call if you’re looking to build a home in the area.
